Citroen Numero 9

These pictures of the French manufacturer's hybrid-powered wagon have been delivered ahead of the N9's debut at the upcoming 2012 Beijing motor show, hinting that Citroen's DS sub-brand is about to get itself a new flagship. And we really, really hope it looks this good.

The styling flagellation begins with 21-inch wheels and ends just 1.27m later with a glass roof. But its massive 1.94m width and 4.9m length - only 1.79cm shorter than an S-Class - leave plenty of room to showcase that front-end. Citroen says: "It introduces the new identity of future models, along with an original light signature. The concept signals the styling cues of the next three DS line models: a premium sedan, an SUV and an executive saloon."

Underneath the 1500kg shell, there's full plug-in full-hybrid tech, which Citroen thinks will esteem to 166mpg, 50km all-electric range, 295hp, and 39g/km of CO2. There's also a deliciously Turbo Outrun-sounding ‘boost' function, which combines the power of the combustion engine and electric motor, dispatching all 295 horsepowers at once. This means 0-62mph takes 5.4 seconds and it'll travel a 1,000m in 25.3 seconds from a standing start.

The drivetrain mashes a normal FWD combustion engine together with an electric motor - rechargeable in 3.5 hours, fact fans - on the rear axle that develops 70hp and 200 torques. If the car reckons you're prodding the edge of adhesion, it switches itself to four-wheel-drive mode, which you can also summon manually. Which sounds useful.

Following on from the Citroën DS3, DS4 and DS5, concept car Numéro 9 takes a fresh look at the DS line. It is a new take on a body style with recognised prestige in automotive history: the shooting brake.

Subtly combining the proportions of a coupé with those of an estate, Numéro 9 hints at exceptional driving sensations, with its taut lines, long bonnet and ultra-low stance (1.27 m tall) on its 21-inch wheels. But it also promises unique onboard comfort, with its generous proportions and the three light shafts in the roof, creating a unique, friendly ambience for all passengers.

Numéro 9 is 4.9 m long and 1.94 m wide with a 3 m wheelbase. This has the advantage of freeing up leg room for passengers in the rear. Its roomy looks – an invitation to get behind the wheel – reflect the real requirements expressed by buyers in the executive segment for function and versatility.
Citroen  has announced the new Numero 9 concept - a new vehicle that will join the current DS  line-up, including the DS3  , DS4  , and DS5  . The Numero 9 previews the styling cues of the next three models in the line: a C-segment premium sedan, an SUV,nd a D-segment executive saloon.
The new Numero 9 is a plug-in full-hybrid vehicle that combines a 225 HP 1.6 liter petrol engine powering the front wheels with a lithium-ion powered electric motor that is positioned on the rear axle and adds another 70 HP. In pure electric mode, the new Numero 9 has a autonomy of 31 miles. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 152 mph.
Citroen will be unveiling their new Numero 9 concept at the end of April at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.

The Citroen Numero 9 is built on a three meter wheelbase and measures 4.9 meters in length and 1.94 meters in width. The concept features a shooting brake design and continues the heritage and sophistication of the DS line. Illustrating this design is a new front-end identity with a grille in 3D relief, flowing into the full-LED headlights, which end in daytime-running lights. The most impressive feature of the concept, however, is a new floating roof, underlined by a chrome trim with a discreet DS marking, and glazed side surfaces flowing into the rear window.
The Numero 9 is finished in black exterior paint with subtle hints of violet, baptised "Whisper." The concept sits on an impressive set of 21" wheels.

"The concept signals the styling cues of the next three DS line models: a C-segment premium sedan, an SUV and a D-segment executive saloon," Citroen said in a statement.
The new DS vehicles have almost nothing in common with their classic cousins except for the badge and two consonants, but Citroen is hoping that legacy continues to count for something. So far it's helped account for 200,000 sales of the DS3, DS4 and DS5 worldwide.
Externally, the Numéro 9 concept goes out of its way to communicate a sense of luxury, slickness and speed. It clearly is the same vehicle we recently discovered in some obscured photos on the company's Facebook page. Citroen likes to describe the car's look as "a new take on the prestigious shooting brake design."
The concept for the future of the DS line is also based on a plug-in hybrid system that claims 166 mpg (267 km/g) fuel economy, 31 miles (50 km) range in full-electric mode and 295 hp. It rides low to the ground on 21-inch (53 cm) wheels and promises a roomy interior in the front and back with three small windows in the roof for "friendly cabin ambience."
As in many luxury hybrids, the electric motor can also be utilized to provide a boost of power. Citroen says Numéro 9 takes just 5.4 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph and 25.3 seconds to travel 1,000 m from a standing start.
